Hotels for Trees
Hotels for Trees is a nonprofit foundation launched in May 2021 in the Netherlands that has since scaled across Europe, North America, Australia and beyond. Its core concept is simple: whenever a guest chooses to skip daily housekeeping, a tree is planted. Hotels pay a set fee per skipped cleaning, and in return save on cleaning costs (energy, materials, labor). Meanwhile, guests can enjoy a more sustainable stay, with the impact visible on their website the next day.
Hotels for Trees supports forestation and reforestation projects globally in partnership with organizations like Trees for All, ReForest Now and the Arbor Day Foundation. Their projects range from restoring Scottish nature reserves to greening areas around the Amsterdam metropolitan region. To date, over 250 hotels have joined across 31 countries, contributing to over 700,000 trees being planted.
Hotels for trees
Hotels for Trees drives positive environmental impact by turning skipped room cleanings into newly planted trees. They help hotels reduce their carbon footprint while giving guests a simple way to enjoy a greener stay.

Mews and Hotels for Trees
Mews has planted over 11,000 trees (and over 235,000 have been planted by Mews hotels) through our partnership and built an industry-first direct Hotels for Trees integration into our platform. Guests can select to skip room cleaning with a single click during online check-in, while hotels can track impact with a synchronized dashboard.
Hotels for Trees at Unfold
For every attendee at Unfold 2026, Mews will plant more trees. The Hotels for Trees team will also be in attendance, so be sure to seek them out in the Entreehal to see how your hotel can make a difference.
